I had three of the most beautiful women in the world show up at work today. Three beautiful, blonde sweethearts. You just can’t even imagine!
I got kisses and hugs from all three. Am I the luckiest guy ever? Probably.
Of course, I’m talking about my wife and daughters. And my son, he was with them, too.
They all came in to see me, and we headed out to eat lunch. Chick-fil-A is our top choice, because they actually still have a play area. Remember when McDonald’s used to have the Play Place? You might not have noticed, but most of those are gone.
Probably because the liability is too high. Some days I’m amazed that more kids didn’t die on playgrounds in the 70’s and 80’s! It sure was a different time.
Anyway, it was such a nice surprise to spend time with them during the day. I miss them all day, and look forward to when I get home and they come running to get hugs and kisses. So, it’s a treat to hear “Daddy!” as they come running down the hall at work.
They ask me every day if I’m going to work.
“Why do you have to go to work, Daddy?”
I always reply, “Because you need food and the baby needs diapers.”
“If she stops wearing diapers, can you stay home with us?” they ask.
Ahhh, the logic of preschoolers! I wish life were that easy.
In the meantime, I’ll take my surprise lunch dates and cherish that extra bit of time with them.
